A Note from Principal Cotton

Happy Sunday!

I just want to thank all of our teachers and staff for a great first week back from Thanksgiving break. We look forward to these last couple of weeks focusing on instructing our students, providing quality tier I instruction, and wrapping up the year for the semester.

We are also looking forward to our 5th-grade program this week to see our students perform on December 7th! It is going to be amazing!

See you soon,

Mrs. Cotton

RHE Angel Tree

RHE Family,

Thanks to your generosity, we have sponsored 50 children from 17 families through our Mustang Angel Tree! Wrapped gifts are due back to school this coming Thursday, December 9th. Please label your gifts clearly with your child's angel code. If you would like to contribute to our RHE Angel Tree donations, please send a $25 Walmart gift card with your child to school. They can be labeled with Mrs. Harris' name, and your child's teacher will get them to her. This is a great way to help if you weren't able to snag an angel this year!

We will have volunteers to take your gifts at the following times:

Tuesday, December 7th (5th-grade families) - I will be outside of the auditorium and can take gifts from 6-6:30 pm before the 5th-grade program

Thursday, December 9th

Morning Drop-Off: Volunteers will be at the main entrance and in the Pre-K through 1st-grade carpool line to accept gifts.

11 am-12 pm: I will be outside of the front entrance to accept gifts

Afternoon Pick-up: Volunteers will be at the main entrance and in the Pre-K through 1st-grade carpool line to accept gifts

Reading is FUNdamental!

This Thursday and Friday is RIF which stands for Reading is Fundamental! Every student will be given the chance to visit the RIF bookstore and choose a free book to take home and keep! This fun opportunity for the kids is funded by the PTA! The generous donations received from PTA fundraisers fund many exciting programs all year long, so thank you, donors!

Battle of the Books Info

We've been getting a lot of questions about Battle of the Books (or BoB!). This is a friendly reading competition for students in third, fourth and fifth grade. We will have our campus competition at the end of January, and that will determine which team (one from each grade level), will go on to the district competition at the end of May. (This is a district event, so we cannot make any changes to the number of teams or grade levels chosen to participate.)

Students read books from an assigned list and practice writing questions that they think may be asked. During the competition, they are asked questions by the moderator (Mr. Landy), and have a set time to answer. The team with the most correct answers wins!

We will evaluate in January, closer to competition time, to see if we will allow guests to view the competition.

Students who have already indicated their desire to compete are being placed on teams and assigned coaches this week. Students can check out books from the library to read.

Please let me know if you have additional questions not answered above!
