A Note from Principal Cotton

I hope everyone has a wonderful and restful MLK holiday and we look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday.  Please don’t forget to bring your technology with you to school if you took it home over the weekend.

Love,

Mrs. Cotton

LOWER GRADE ARRIVAL AND DISMISSAL

Victory Awning will begin the construction of our covered walkway from the entrance by the library to the back teacher parking lot beginning Monday, January 17th, and will last for approximately 1.5 weeks. During this time, PreK, Kindergarten, and 1st Grade students will continue to arrive and dismiss in the back teacher parking lot, but will not use the stairs to access the school. Mustang Muscle will be there to help escort children through the lower level playground into the correct entrance by the library. A big thank you to Drew Harris for spending many hours facilitating this new addition for our school! We truly appreciate your hard work!

CALLING ALL MUSTANG MUSCLE! Help is needed during morning dropoff in the back teacher parking lot for the next 1.5 weeks. Please arrive by 7:30 am to help students through the playground to their correct entrance.

THANK YOU, TEACHERS AND STAFF!

As Covid cases continue to climb at an alarming rate throughout the district, please take a moment and thank our teachers, administrators, faculty, and janitorial staff! They are working tirelessly to ensure our students are able to continue to come to class even though many of them are taking on more than what is asked. They put our children's safety and wellbeing above their own so please let them know how much we appreciate their time and effort into keeping our school running throughout this pandemic!

A Kaleidoscope of Colors- Fine Arts Day 2022 is Friday, March 4 and In-Person!!

As we enjoy our camp activities, it is hard not to look around at the Kaleidoscope of Colors in the world. Get ready to celebrate that kaleidoscope at our annual Fine Arts Day!! We are SO excited to be able to continue this tradition and spend the day celebrating the arts. This is a can’t miss event and it is not possible without your support!! We need you to volunteer to make this day happen.

We need your help! Here are the variety of ways to volunteer:

  • Have an artistic talent (Music, Dance, Art, etc) that you would like to share with the kids, please email Robynttu@gmail.com. I still have 3 artist spots to fill for our rotations.

  • We need help setting up and decorating the night before starting after school until we are finished! Any little bit of help you can provide that night is appreciated! (No kids please!)

  • Lunch Volunteers – We provide you lunch, and you stay in the classrooms with the students while the teachers eat. You also take them to recess or tour the outdoor decorations, weather permitting. You are needed from approximately 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This is a great way to see what we do without having to make a full-day commitment! No younger siblings are allowed to attend with you.

  • All Day Volunteers – You are needed from about 7:40 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. These volunteers are provided lunch and a free T-shirt! There are a limited number of all-day volunteers needed, and they are placed on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • Each volunteer must have a clear background check for 2021-2022! No exceptions will be made. Background checks must be completed by Friday, Feb. 4. Need to do yours? Click here to complete: https://www.fwisd.org/Page/360

  • After the tardy bell rings, non-volunteers will have to leave the building. Non-volunteers are not allowed to visit at lunchtime on this day.

  •  Please click on the following google form to sign up as a Fine Arts Day Volunteer. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSejGUOL3tY9qscLgRz-fxVOF9g0eoAYwfZKeR_9MUKc-9imiQ/viewform?usp=pp_url

T-shirts!!

  • As part of the fun, we also sell special T-shirts for the day! You are welcome to purchase one for students and/or yourself! Shirts are $12 and will be black. Because of the ongoing supply chain, Shirt orders will close on Friday, Jan. 21, and very few extra shirts will be ordered! Please do not plan to buy one at the last minute as you may be disappointed! Shirt orders will be taken via paper form with cash or check, or online at https://rhpta.membershiptoolkit.com/form/m/173467 (this link will be LIVE Tuesday at 8 am!)

  • Please return all forms to your student’s teacher, to Laura Hixon, or place them in the PTA box in the office. Please securely attach cash or checks for shirt orders – we recommend placing them in an envelope.

Battle of the Books

Battle of the Books for 3-5th grade is Tuesday, January 25. At this time we don’t know if parents will be invited to watch but we will keep you posted!

From the Desk of School Counselor, Mrs. Harris

Our campus has implemented a comprehensive suicide prevention program which involves reviewing and revising our system procedures and providing training to all staff, parents, and students. Because suicide is the third leading cause of death for young people between the ages of 14-21, we consider this an important issue to address in our learning community.

Here at Ridglea Hills Elementary School, we have procedures in place to assess suicide risk and will be happy to discuss those with you at any time. We believe in the concept of a competent community. This means we respond immediately when we hear someone threatening to hurt themselves or others.

The following link will take you to Lifelines Suicide Prevention Information for Parents/Students.  This information is to help you identify risk factors, warning signs, and protective factors.

We have also included some resources should you or your child need assistance. https://sites.google.com/teachers.fwisd.org/rhe-counseling/resources

Student presentations for 5th grade will begin the week of January 31st.  Please let us know if this is not something you want your child to participate in at this time and we will arrange an alternative to the classroom guidance that day.  Again, if you want to know more about what we present to all stakeholders, I am happy to meet and share more information with you.

We appreciate the opportunity to be your partner in the education of your child.
