A Note from Principal Cotton

We look forward to a great week next week with everyone returning safe and well.  Please don’t forget to wear your Western Wear on February 3rd, if you want, as we celebrate and support the stock show/rodeo!  Also, remember on Friday, February 4th, there will be no school for students. It is a staff development day for teachers and staff!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Love,

Mrs. Cotton

The AR contest for January runs until the end of the day Monday the 31st. You still have time to get those points in. There are several classes as of now that have the most points in their grade level but not enough participation, so the treat will go to the next class that Does meet the requirements. Remember all it takes is an attempt at an Ar quiz. Thank you to all the students and teachers that are having fun with a little competition between the grades, keep checking the boards next to the library. The winner will be announced Tuesday with Ar ribbon levels.

A Kaleidoscope of Colors- Fine Arts Day 2022 is Friday, March 4 and In-Person!!

A Kaleidoscope of Colors- Fine Arts Day 2022 is Friday, March 4 and In-Person!!

As we enjoy our camp activities, it is hard not to look around at the Kaleidoscope of Colors in the world. Get ready to celebrate that kaleidoscope at our annual Fine Arts Day!! We are SO excited to be able to continue this tradition and spend the day celebrating the arts. This is a can’t miss event and it is not possible without your support!! We currently need empty water bottles (soda bottles are too hard) and acrylic paint of ALL colors (can be almost empty bottles)

  • We have had an overwhelming response in day-of volunteers, thank you!

  • We still NEED help setting up on Thursday, March 3rd. We would love volunteers to help Thursday, March 3 from 4 until whenever. If you can’t get there until 5 or 5:30, please come. IF you can only come for an hour, please come. We have a lot of art to hang and get on the walls. This is where the magic happens so come be a part of the fun! Unfortunately the kiddos should be left at home (unless they are of the high school age and then we like their energetic, helping hands. They can earn volunteer hours needed for certain student organizations.  We need you to volunteer to make this day happen.

  • Lunch Volunteers – We provide you lunch, and you stay in the classrooms with the students while the teachers eat. You also take them to recess or tour the outdoor decorations, weather permitting. You are needed from approximately 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This is a great way to see what we do without having to make a full-day commitment! No younger siblings are allowed to attend with you.

  • Each volunteer must have a clear background check for 2021-2022! No exceptions will be made. Background checks must be completed by Friday, Feb. 4. Need to do yours? Click here to complete: https://www.fwisd.org/Page/360

  • After the tardy bell rings, non-volunteers will have to leave the building. Non-volunteers are not allowed to visit at lunch time on this day.

From the Desk of School Counselor, Mrs. Harris

Our campus has implemented a comprehensive suicide prevention program which involves reviewing and revising our system procedures and providing training to all staff, parents, and students. Because suicide is the third leading cause of death for young people between the ages of 14-21, we consider this an important issue to address in our learning community.

Here at Ridglea Hills Elementary School, we have procedures in place to assess suicide risk and will be happy to discuss those with you at any time. We believe in the concept of a competent community. This means we respond immediately when we hear someone threatening to hurt themselves or others.

The following link will take you to Lifelines Suicide Prevention Information for Parents/Students.  This information is to help you identify risk factors, warning signs, and protective factors.

We have also included some resources should you or your child need assistance. https://sites.google.com/teachers.fwisd.org/rhe-counseling/resources

Student presentations for 5th grade will begin the week of January 31st.  Please let us know if this is not something you want your child to participate in at this time and we will arrange an alternative to the classroom guidance that day.  Again, if you want to know more about what we present to all stakeholders, I am happy to meet and share more information with you.

We appreciate the opportunity to be your partner in the education of your child.
