From the Desk of School Counselor, Mrs. Harris
Our campus has implemented a comprehensive suicide prevention program which involves reviewing and revising our system procedures and providing training to all staff, parents, and students. Because suicide is the third leading cause of death for young people between the ages of 14-21, we consider this an important issue to address in our learning community.
Here at Ridglea Hills Elementary School, we have procedures in place to assess suicide risk and will be happy to discuss those with you at any time. We believe in the concept of a competent community. This means we respond immediately when we hear someone threatening to hurt themselves or others.
The following link will take you to Lifelines Suicide Prevention Information for Parents/Students. This information is to help you identify risk factors, warning signs, and protective factors.
We have also included some resources should you or your child need assistance. https://sites.google.com/teachers.fwisd.org/rhe-counseling/resources
Student presentations for 5th grade will begin the week of January 31st. Please let us know if this is not something you want your child to participate in at this time and we will arrange an alternative to the classroom guidance that day. Again, if you want to know more about what we present to all stakeholders, I am happy to meet and share more information with you.
We appreciate the opportunity to be your partner in the education of your child.
