A Kaleidoscope of Colors- Fine Arts Day 2022 is Friday, March 4 and In-Person!!

A Kaleidoscope of Colors- Fine Arts Day 2022 is Friday, March 4 and In-Person!!

As we enjoy our camp activities, it is hard not to look around at the Kaleidoscope of Colors in the world. Get ready to celebrate that kaleidoscope at our annual Fine Arts Day!! We are SO excited to be able to continue this tradition and spend the day celebrating the arts. This is a can’t miss event and it is not possible without your support!! We currently need empty water bottles (soda bottles are too hard) and acrylic paint of ALL colors (can be almost empty bottles)

  • We have had an overwhelming response in day-of volunteers, thank you!

  • We still NEED help setting up on Thursday, March 3rd. We would love volunteers to help Thursday, March 3 from 4 until whenever. If you can’t get there until 5 or 5:30, please come. IF you can only come for an hour, please come. We have a lot of art to hang and get on the walls. This is where the magic happens so come be a part of the fun! Unfortunately the kiddos should be left at home (unless they are of the high school age and then we like their energetic, helping hands. They can earn volunteer hours needed for certain student organizations.  We need you to volunteer to make this day happen.

  • Lunch Volunteers – We provide you lunch, and you stay in the classrooms with the students while the teachers eat. You also take them to recess or tour the outdoor decorations, weather permitting. You are needed from approximately 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This is a great way to see what we do without having to make a full-day commitment! No younger siblings are allowed to attend with you.

  • Each volunteer must have a clear background check for 2021-2022! No exceptions will be made. Background checks must be completed by Friday, Feb. 4. Need to do yours? Click here to complete: https://www.fwisd.org/Page/360

  • After the tardy bell rings, non-volunteers will have to leave the building. Non-volunteers are not allowed to visit at lunch time on this day.

Parents & Guardians of 5th Grade Students:

Parents & Guardians of 5th grade students:

It is already time for you and your student to begin thinking about what courses to take next year in 6th grade!

Ridglea Hills would like to assist 5th grade students and parents in making a smooth transition to sixth grade and to help students make course selections. There are many important things to consider. The Monnig Middle School counselor presented to 5th grade classes this week, and your student has made course selections. To help ensure your student makes the very best choices for him or her, we will be contacting you to meet with each family one at a time to review those selections.  Even if your child is not planning to attend Monnig Middle, please set up this meeting as plans can change.

Parent/guardian meetings will be done via phone or Zoom, and will take approximately 10-15 minutes.  Please complete the Google form found at the link below to set up an appointment time between now and February 24th.

Here are some things to begin thinking about:

COURSE CATALOGS

The District publishes middle and high school course catalogs annually. The catalogs are maintained on the district website. The course catalogs provide detailed information about class offerings. https://www.fwisd.org/Page/6999.

REQUIRED COURSES

Students in most 6th grade schools take 7 courses per day.  Sixth grade students are required to take courses in English/Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, and Physical Education/Health. One year of fine arts is required in middle school.  At Monnig, all 6th grade students take Humanities.  This is a combined English Language Arts and Social Studies class.

ELECTIVES

Sixth grade students select 1 - 2 electives.  Electives vary by campus.  Your 5th grader has received a general presentation by the middle school counselors and may be interested in something specific. Students were asked to select their top four electives in case their first choices are not possible to fit in their schedule.

The elective options for Monnig Middle School include:

ART, BAND, CHOIR, COMPUTER, DANCE, JCC, ORCHESTRA, PIANO, THEATER

The completion of course selection is a request only; it is not the student’s actual schedule. Schedules are filled based on availability.

PROTECT for 4th and 5th Graders

Parents/guardians of 4th & 5th graders:

Your child is being invited to participate in PROTECT, a human trafficking prevention education program.  The prevention program was designed to empower students to know the signs of potential danger and trust their gut to report it to an adult.  Learn more about PROTECT by visiting www.protectnow.org.

The Elementary PROTECT curriculum focuses on educating students about safety, their rights, and ways to communicate when their boundaries have been crossed.  They will learn about resilience and how to identify safe people, safe places, and safe choices.

Parents/guardians must give permission for their child to participate.  Online consent can be given here: https://fortworthisd.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_3JFAcaASTprQZXE

February AR Update

AR is back on for taking quizzes outside of the school's IP address, the quizzes Must be taken on your child’s school-issued laptop. Sorry for any inconvenience this might have caused, but we want to give our students the tools to be successful.

Remember the Ultimate goal with AR is to watch and see your child’s reading comprehension grow.

Strong Readers become Strong Leaders.

Also, If you ordered an AR tee, they are running a bit behind due to the ice storm. I hope to have them by Monday or Tuesday this week.
