A Note from Principal Cotton

Happy Sunday!

Remember tomorrow is a staff development day.  There’s no school for students! Also, please remember to have students dress up in Tutus and Tuxedos for TWOSday if they want! The staff will be participating on 2-22-22!  We look forward to seeing all students and staff return on Tuesday!

Thank you to Mrs. Hudson and Mrs. Dore for their awesome job at the Hotdog Supper Remix!!! It was amazing and we loved every bit of it!  Also, thank you parent volunteers that also supported this awesome fundraiser for our school!

Love,

Mrs. Cotton

Hot Dog Supper - Remix!

What a fun party! Hot Dog Supper: REMIX was a huge success and a day full of smiles, laughs, and spirited Mustang energy! All of the raffle baskets were a huge hit!  We could not have done any of this without the help of many people in the Mustang family! Thank you to all of the room parents and donors that helped put the amazing baskets together! Thank you to Linda Nevitt, Emily McNay, Bonnie Gipson, Cailey Walton, Jenn Nevitt, Samantha Nevitt, Ellie Nevitt, Ben Nevitt, Henry Nevitt, Brent Dore, and Owen Severson for all of your help with set-up, selling tickets, prepping tickets, and cupcakes, dancing as a hotdog, and all of the other behind-the-scenes details. Thank you to Nancy Sticksel and Megan Powers for helping guide and encourage us along the way.  And a HUGE shoutout to our favorite Mrs. Cotton for dressing up as a hot dog and helping make the day so much fun for everyone! If you missed the drawings, the Facebook live video and a few pictures are still available to see on the Ridglea Hills PTA page.

Are you sad the day is over? Don’t worry! The fun continues on! Kid Parties are now live on Bidpal for you to purchase! These are grade-specific parties hosted by families and teachers that will take place over the next few months.  Hop on Bidpal and see what exciting opportunities there are for your student(s)! Hurry! There are limited spots for each party and some have already sold out!

Thank you again for such a fun day!

TWOSday is for Tutus & Tuxedos!

Let’s have a little fun by dressing up in Tutus & Tuxedos this TWOSday in honor of 2-22-22! The school sent home a flyer with your child last week!

A Kaleidoscope of Colors- Fine Arts Day 2022 is Friday, March 4 and In-Person!!

A Kaleidoscope of Colors- Fine Arts Day 2022 is Friday, March 4, and In-Person!!

Fine Arts Day is 2 weeks away and we do still need your help! On Thursday, March 3 we have a school to transform!  We will start after school and run until we are done. We will have food as well as a raffle throughout the evening (must be present to win). If you have a craft kit with glue gun, scissors, and other essentials, bring it (but make sure everything is labeled)! If you don't, no worries, we will have everything ready for all areas of the building and outside! We need those that are and aren't crafty! Grab a friend, bring your high school-age child (or make them babysit the younger ones), or come solo. We do ask that all Elementary school age and younger stay home though.

We still need some lunch volunteers for the following classes: Andersen, Cribbs, Martinez, Wayland, Dutton, Leschber, Jones, Brooks, Hall, Smith, and Blakely. If your student is in one of those classes would you consider volunteering for an hour lunch/recess on Friday, March 4? Contact Laura Hixon, laura.hixon@fwisd.org, to put your name on the list!

Back to March 3...Have a girl's night out, have a guy's night out, have a date night, feed the family and come on up, have a neighbor watch the kids while help right after school, however you make it happen, come on up! IF you want to know if we are still working at a certain time, text 817-688-3607, and I will let you know! We want your help turning Ridglea Hills into a Kaleidoscope of Color!!

Questions about volunteering? Email Laura Hixon at laura.hixon@fwisd.org or Robyn Urbani at robynttu@gmail.com

SPRING AUCTION - SATURDAY, MARCH 26

You are formally invited to the raddest party of the year. (Drumroll please..) This year's 2022 Spring Auction theme is... THE 90's!! Dust off your Air Jordans and Dr. Martins because you do NOT want to miss this!

We are still looking for donations and volunteers for the day of the event! Please comment here or email RHEspringauction2022@gmail.com if you would like to help!

Thank You, PTA!

On behalf of RHPTA, I am happy to announce our PTA-funded awning is up and students can resume using the back sidewalk!

A HUGE thank you to Drew Harris for handling this project for the PTA! You have done an amazing job facilitating this for our school!

As we wind down from one of our three fundraisers, Hot Dog Supper Remix, please remember this is one of the many reasons why we raise money for our beloved neighborhood school! We are able to provide items such as the awning, inclusive playground equipment, and technology to just name a few. Every little bit counts!

Parents & Guardians of 5th Grade Students:

Parents & Guardians of 5th grade students:

It is already time for you and your student to begin thinking about what courses to take next year in 6th grade!

Ridglea Hills would like to assist 5th grade students and parents in making a smooth transition to sixth grade and to help students make course selections. There are many important things to consider. The Monnig Middle School counselor presented to 5th grade classes this week, and your student has made course selections. To help ensure your student makes the very best choices for him or her, we will be contacting you to meet with each family one at a time to review those selections.  Even if your child is not planning to attend Monnig Middle, please set up this meeting as plans can change.

Parent/guardian meetings will be done via phone or Zoom, and will take approximately 10-15 minutes.  Please complete the Google form found at the link below to set up an appointment time between now and February 24th.

Here are some things to begin thinking about:

COURSE CATALOGS

The District publishes middle and high school course catalogs annually. The catalogs are maintained on the district website. The course catalogs provide detailed information about class offerings. https://www.fwisd.org/Page/6999.

REQUIRED COURSES

Students in most 6th grade schools take 7 courses per day.  Sixth grade students are required to take courses in English/Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, and Physical Education/Health. One year of fine arts is required in middle school.  At Monnig, all 6th grade students take Humanities.  This is a combined English Language Arts and Social Studies class.

ELECTIVES

Sixth grade students select 1 - 2 electives.  Electives vary by campus.  Your 5th grader has received a general presentation by the middle school counselors and may be interested in something specific. Students were asked to select their top four electives in case their first choices are not possible to fit in their schedule.

The elective options for Monnig Middle School include:

ART, BAND, CHOIR, COMPUTER, DANCE, JCC, ORCHESTRA, PIANO, THEATER

The completion of course selection is a request only; it is not the student’s actual schedule. Schedules are filled based on availability.

Run Club News

No school tomorrow, 2/21/22 means no Run Club! Our last day of Run Club is Monday, 2/28/22 until 4 pm. We will have a party to celebrate all the hard work our runners have put in this year!

  • Reminder - there is no Kids 5K at the Cowtown race weekend this year. This was a decision made by the race organizers due to the pandemic. Schools across the metroplex have been given "pop-up" race assignments. RHE Run Club's pop-up race will be at RHE on Friday, 3/25. This race is for runners who registered for the race through Cowtown. Registration closed on 1/31. At this time, we are unable to accommodate runners who have not registered. We will let you know if this changes.
  • Run Club shirts have arrived! We will deliver them to your child's classroom this week! Be sure to have your child wear their Mustang Miles shirt to our end-of-season party on 2/28!
  • Didn't get a chance to order one? No worries! We have re-opened the shop so you can get one. The new deadline is March 1st! https://rherunclub2022-2.itemorder.com/shop/sale/

Be sure to join our Run Club class on Remind, in case of any last-minute changes due to inclement weather. Text @202122rhe to the number 81010

Snackshack is March 4th!

Mustang Snackshack is moving to the “First Friday” of each month!  The next one is March 4th!

PROTECT for 4th and 5th Graders

Parents/guardians of 4th & 5th graders:

Your child is being invited to participate in PROTECT, a human trafficking prevention education program.  The prevention program was designed to empower students to know the signs of potential danger and trust their gut to report it to an adult.  Learn more about PROTECT by visiting www.protectnow.org.

The Elementary PROTECT curriculum focuses on educating students about safety, their rights, and ways to communicate when their boundaries have been crossed.  They will learn about resilience and how to identify safe people, safe places, and safe choices.

Parents/guardians must give permission for their child to participate.  Online consent can be given here: https://fortworthisd.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_3JFAcaASTprQZXE
