SUBJECT: RH Pony Post: Week of February 25th

A Note from Our Principal

Good Afternoon Parents,

A few announcements:

Our 2nd grade program is on Tuesday, 2/27/2024 at 6:30 p.m. (General PTA Meeting at 6:15 beforehand). Please come out and see our students perform, you won't be disappointed.

Book Fair begins tomorrow (Monday), please don't forget to stop by and support the library!  If you also purchased out of dress code to support the library, please make sure to have your wristband on.

Congratulations to Mrs. Meredith Andersen, Mrs. Micki G. and Ms. Claire as their class competed in the Special Olympics yesterday at Lamar HS in Arlington.  It was awesome to see our babies take home medals as their coaches supported them during their physical activities!

Shout out to Mrs. Jessica Molder, Mrs. McCurry and Ms. Lopez for participating in the Cowtown Marathon with our students yesterday.  Our students, teachers, staff, and volunteers worked hard to compete, and we are so proud of them.

Have a great Sunday! See you tomorrow!

Mrs. Cotton

Fine Arts Day - Friday, March 1st
Let The Games Begin!

Let the Games Begin! Fine Arts Day is THIS Friday, March 1st!

Please join us beginning at 4:00pm on Thursday, 2/29 to start decorating the school.  It's a big surprise for the students, so adults and former students only. Join us anytime that evening and stay for as long or short as you can!

If you ordered a FAD shirt, it should come home with your child on Wednesday or Thursday.

All of our volunteer slots are filled - thank you to all that signed up! All day volunteers - check in at the lobby by 8am.  Lunch volunteers - make sure you are parked and inside by 10:45am.  Any questions - please text Nancy Sticksel at 817-706-8426.

Things to remember for March 1st!

  • Please allow extra time for parking/drop-off as we will have many extra volunteers on campus. We encourage everyone to take a look around outside and inside the school before the bell rings at 7:50 am.

  • For the safety of our students, ONLY pre-registered volunteers may be in the building after 8:00 am. Parents, visitors, and younger/older siblings are not allowed to shadow their students or stop to see them during the day (including lunch).

  • All students need to bring a sack lunch. The entire school will eat in their classrooms that day.

  • Wear your Fine Arts Day shirt or other clothes that can get messy.

  • Do not bring your backpack to school this day.

  • It’s going to be a day full of fun!

Library News
Spring Book Fair! February 26-March 1

The final Literati Book Fair of the year is here and there is something for everyone! We have loved watching Mustangs of all sizes come in to preview the Book Fair and find so many treasures! We hope you will all join us this week for Book Fair fun and raise funds for our beloved library in the process!

The online Book Fair will remain open through the conclusion of the in-person sale. Gift cards may also be purchased online and will then be available for your kiddos to shop in the library.

There will be one final opportunity to purchase out of dress bands on Monday morning! FIVE DOLLARS, buys out of uniform the ENTIRE WEEK of Book Fair (Feb. 26-March 1)! All money raised will go right back into the library towards new tables, chairs, books etc.!

Book fair is made possible by volunteers. We are so grateful for those who have donated their time the last few days to set up the Book Fair, help students make their wish lists, and sell out of dress bands. We couldn’t do it without you! There are still many opportunities to help (and get your volunteer discount)! If you can join in on the fun, and volunteer at the book fair, please see available time slots on Sign-up Genius. Background checks must be completed to volunteer.

If you have any questions, please reach out to Bonnie Gipson at bongipson@outlook.com

UIL Information

Teachers are beginning to talk with students about UIL.  Students in grades 2-5 who are interested in participating in UIL should talk with their teachers.  Mark your calendars for Saturday, May 11.  Ridglea Hills will host the FWISD Elementary UIL Academic Meet.  More details to come.  If you have questions about events, reach out to Laura Hixon at laura.hixon@fwisd.org or your child's teacher.

Our goal is to have as many students as possible participate, so we may limit the number of events a student participates in.

Creative Writing (2nd grade)

Dictionary Skills (5th grade)

Early Dismissals are Now Electronic!

“The process” itself hasn’t changed - we are just helping to expedite the process. The early dismissal sign-out is in the office and will still be used as needed. We have created a google doc that parents may complete in advance for early dismissals. This is an effort to alleviate parents having to reach out to teachers directly during instruction time and eliminate a long wait for your student to come up to the office, especially when time is critical. We will call the student(s) a few minutes before the requested dismissal time and have them wait for pick up. If the students have not been picked up within 5 minutes of the requested dismissal time, we will return them to class. The form is available below, or on the PTA website - rhpta.com

Here are answers to a few FAQs:

Q: Who can submit the early dismissal request form?
A: Only contacts listed in FOCUS can request an early dismissal.

Q: Are IDs required?
A: Yes. Authorized contacts MUST present a valid, government issued ID before the student will be released.

Q: What’s the earliest I can request an early dismissal?
A: Electronic requests can be made as early as parents would like for the same day. Students will be marked absent if they are not in class at 10am.

Q: What’s the latest time for early dismissals?
A: 2pm for Pre-K, 2:45 K -5

If there are any other questions, please contact the main office (817) 815-1700.
